Why blueberry growers need a deterrent that changes
Bird pressure can escalate just as blueberries reach peak value. A North American survey of growers conservatively estimated that birds damaged 10% of the blueberry crop in the year studied. Losses vary widely by farm, but even a few points of damage can be costly in a high-value crop.
The harder problem is habituation. Birds can learn that a stationary or repetitive device poses no real threat, making fixed deterrents less effective over time. A 2026 review of bird-deterrence research found that static, repetitive methods often produced diminishing returns, while mobility, proximity, unpredictability and adaptation can improve deterrence.
How Skysense protects blueberries
